Situated in the stunning location of Port Carlisle, just yards from the Solway Firth you will enjoy a tranquility that is all too rare in modern world. The Solway Firth, noted as one of the least disturbed and natural coastlines in Europe is acknowledged not only as an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ but also for its importance to the study of the environment. Port Carlisle, originally known as Fishers Cross is steeped in history. Marking the start of Hadrians Wall, the path of which passes within yards of the front door, this tiny village has so many stories to tell. The Development of Fishers Cross into a bustling Port for the North of England until it’s demise in the early 1800’s is all to evident for anyone to see. The canal paths, which were then turned into horse drawn railway tracks are still evident. Driving across the salt marshes where cattle graze freely, you automatically feel yourself unwinding. Arriving in Port Carlisle, the hustle and bustle of the modern world are left behind you. If you took a snapshot of the high street with it’s dozen or so houses and compared it to a postcard of the 1800’s, nothing too much will have changed. The vast array of migratory birds that stop at the Solway is breathtaking. The scenery superb. The wildlife and fauna on your doorstep awe inspiring. Hadrians Wall, Stone Circles, The Lake District, Salmon Fishing, Bird Watching, Cycling, Walking. The Solway has it all.
