The Solway Firth is renown for the huge numbers and different varieties of wildfowl, waders and birds. Oyster Catchers, curlews, redshanks, lapwings, guillemots, razorbills, cormorants, kittiwakes, puffins and peregrine falcons are jus some of the others that make up just some of the other residents! |

The Hadrians Wall Trail passes just yards from the cottage. The start of the Hadrians Wall Trail commences just one mile along the coast at Bowness on Solway before it passes just yards from the cottage before continuing on it’s 84 mile path to the east to Newcastle. |

Carlisle is steeped in history with it’s 900 year old castle and a cathedral dating back to 1122. Carlisle is also a bustling and modern city with superb shopping facilities in addition to great restaurants, theatres and exhibitions. Reached by car in less than half an hour, there is also a bus service that runs from the village. |

The Northern Lakes can be reached in under an hour by car. Bassenthwaite, Derwent Water and Keswick are all within easy reach and make for great walking and hiking days out. |
