Holiday Cottage on the stunning Solway Firth

Two Bedroom Character Terraced Cottage, Sleeps Three, Pets Welcome

For Thousands of Years people have stood on the mud flats at Port Carlisle and looked out across the Solway Firth.  A statement that is all too evident with the start of Hadrians Wall and it’s path running almost past the cottages front door.

The Solway is world renowned for it’s importance to the study of the environment.  The shores of the Solway play host to about 150,000 European and Canadian migratory birds which land there each winter to feed while heading for sunnier climes.

The sheer number of different species is staggering.  Waders include Oystercatchers, Sanderling, Knott, Curlew, Redshank, Turnstone, Golden Plover, Ringed Plover, Grey Plover, Bar-tailed Godwit are just a few.

With so many different types of wintering wildfowl and waders the Solway has become an area of international importance for birds.
